All Hallows Eve Swiped from the pages of The Minstrel Tale Anna Questerly 9781482545937 Books
Two short stories are contained in this volume: "All Hallows Eve" and "The Changeling."Anna Questerly has an engaging writing style, and her stories easily leap from the page into your imagination. She claims to be a present-day minstrel, and she definitely has the story-telling ability to be able to claim that title. The stories are written for older children (young children may find them too disturbing). Pre-teenagers and above should love both of them.
One of the nice features of reading this book on the Kindle was being able to quickly access the dictionary. (Press lightly on the word you want to look up, and the definition will appear. Tap the bottom of the screen to get an arrow and you'll go directly back to the place you left off.) Reading the full definitions (press on the orange highlight) of a few of the words used was enlightening, and it allowed me to better appreciate subtle nuances in the story. An example of this was the reference to the mandrake root. By reading the full definition, I learned that mandrake root allegedly screams when taken out of the ground. While knowledge of that tidbit is not necessary to enjoy the story, it was interesting, and it provided a wonderful frame of reference for understanding the emotional state and actions of the characters.
